Harrow Council is the 12th largest London Borough by area and one of the most culturally diverse local authorities in the UK, making it a great place to live, work and visit. Located 10 miles from the city centre and just 13 minutes to Euston from Harrow & Wealdstone station there are great transport links via the Metropolitan Line, Watford DC Line and national rail service. It is easily accessible to the M1, M25 and A406.

Harrow Council’s Adults department are looking for experienced Learning Disabilities care assistant to join their team to provide excellent care to their service users. The post holder must be committed to help people to live their lives as independently as possible and support them in reaching their potential, through both practical and emotional support.

The appointed candidate will be assisting multi-ethnic care team to create an enabling environment for people with learning disabilities and provide care and support tailored to the needs of the individual. It is an incredibly varied and rewarding role as you will be helping vulnerable people to improve their quality of life, achieve their goals and make a very real and positive difference to their lives.  This involves assisting residents with their daily care needs in terms of physical, emotional, educational, occupational and cultural requirements.

The post holder will provide a range of personal support, social, emotional and practical care tasks as required for the well-being of service users: To work within the assessment and care planning framework, enabling service users to exercise control over their own lives by maximising their independence.

 To be successful in this role you would need to have the below skills & experience:

  • Past experience in residential setting supporting people with complex-needs, ideally within learning disabilities service.
  • An understanding and awareness of the Council’s Equal Opportunities policy in employment and service delivery.
  • An understanding of ‘challenging behaviour’ and how to work with it constructively.
  • Willingness and ability to work a flexible staff rota including weekends and bank holidays.
  • Minimum of NVQ level 2 in Health and Social Care.
  • The ability to support and assist services users according to their assessed needs.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
