Description

Harrow Council is the 12th largest London Borough by area and one of the most culturally diverse local authorities in the UK, making it a great place to live, work and visit. Located 10 miles from the city centre and just 13 minutes to Euston from Harrow & Wealdstone station there are great transport links via the Metropolitan Line, Watford DC Line and national rail service. It is easily accessible to the M1, M25 and A406.

Harrow Council’s Adults department are looking for a qualified Social Worker to join their team on a fixed term contract until 31st March 2020, for 21 hours per week. The post holder will be required to assess the needs of elderly physically and mentally frail people or other relevant clients as necessary, in accordance with current legislation and the policy and practices of the Local Authority.  

A key part of their work will be to work collaboratively with the local Harrow and Brent Clinical Commissioning Group [CCG] undertaking Decision Support Tools  DST’s] for NHS Continuing Healthcare Assessments with lead Clinicians in a timely manner.

The Post holder will also need to be aware of the vulnerability of frail clients and to protect their property.

To be successful in this role you would need to have the below skills & experience:

  • An understanding and awareness of the Council's Equal Opportunities policy in employment and service delivery
  • Ability to respond to staff and consumers fairly, regardless of race, colour, religion, gender, age and disability
  • Has to be able to demonstrate an understanding of the process involved in assessing the needs of an older frail and disabled person.
  • Experience of carrying out continuing Healthcare Assessments and in particular Decision Support Tools for this purpose.
  • To demonstrate literacy and numeracy skills to the level required to complete forms and write reports, e.g. on the above assessments.
  • Demonstrate the ability to structure own time and to prioritise competing demands to ensure all essential work is done.
  • The ability to acquire the skills necessary to operate the Department's Information Technology Systems.
  • To be able to demonstrate an understanding of the need to work within budgets.
  • Must have worked with very disabled and or vulnerable frail older people. Experience should include pre or post qualification experience in a post with responsibility for assessing needs for this client group.
