Early Support Practitioner G8

Harrow Council is the 12th largest London borough by area and one of the most culturally diverse local authorities in the UK, making it a great place to live, work and visit. This is a fantastic opportunity for an Early Support Practitioner to take a lead role in Early Support to identify and support the needs of children, young people and their families before they require more intensive specialist interventions. As well as working closely with the children’s services team with those most vulnerable.

The post holder will report into the Early Support Hub Manager and join the Early Support - Pre-natal – 19/25 years team to ensure high quality direct work takes place during pregnancy, with babies, very young children, children, young people and their families to improve their outcomes through the provision of support and early support services.

The post holder will work as a lead worker directly with our client group, and undertake universal plus key worker functions when necessary.

In addition, the post holder will work with other staff at the hub in the provision of health and education activities, parenting programmes, individual work, group work and in a range of targeted universal and universal plus interventions planned to ensure good outcomes for children, young people and their families.

To be successful in this role you would need to have the below skills and experience:

  • Knowledge of delivering and leading the implementation of the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum and key stage curricula
  • Experience in offering evidence based parenting programmes
  • Experience of working with children & families on a 1:1 basis and in groups
  • Knowledge of participating in the changing environment of Children’s Services, Children’s Centres, Youth Service and associated Government initiatives
  • Working with children, young people and families with diverse needs, including well-being, social and health needs and leading the planning and delivery of a range of activities to meet these needs
  • Have an Early years care and education vocational qualification level 3 or above and commitment to study to level 4 and above.
  • Proficient in the use of MS Office Tools including Outlook, Word and Excel with a willingness and aptitude to learn other IT systems, databases to proficient user level
  • Ability to travel between sites to plan and provide services, including travel widely and frequently across the borough
