Would you like to join us to change the way we deliver frontline services for families affected by dementia? Adopting and pioneering early intervention and Restorative Practice approaches, Dementia Care is changing in Harrow.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Dementia Nurses to join the well-established teams within Harrow Adult Social Care and Harrow Carers as specialist Admiral Nurses in a Fixed Term contract for up to 18 months.

The Admiral Nurse Service will work collaboratively with other professionals and the voluntary sector partners and Dementia UK, through a service collaboration agreement to deliver person-centred support to families and carers of people with dementia across Harrow.  They will deliver evidence based dementia care and a range of therapeutic interventions to help people live positively, develop skills, improve communication and maintain relationships.

You will be employed by the London Borough of Harrow and will work in partnership with Harrow Carers and community and inpatient services across Harrow, focussing particularly on supporting colleagues in primary care. You will be supported by Dementia UK through monthly practice development, clinical supervision and continuing professional development, to maintain excellent standards and specialist skills in dementia care.

The primary focus of the Admiral Nurse role is to provide clinical leadership in the delivery of person-centred and relationship-centred dementia care within operational areas of Harrow Council and Harrow Carers to improve the experience of carers/families affected by dementia.

About you

We are looking for a passionate registered nurse with post registration clinical experience of working with people with dementia and their carer’s. We welcome applications from qualified Nurses who are able to show initiative and can support the development of the Admiral Nurse Service to an outstanding standard.

The Successful candidate will have:

  • Demonstrated experience of working as an autonomous practitioner.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage services.
  • Experience of professional supervision of staff.
  • Experience of audit/ evaluating clinical practice.
  • Experience report writing.
  • Ability to incorporate and demonstrate all of the 6 Admiral Nurse competencies: person-centred care, therapeutic skills, triadic relationship, sharing knowledge, best practice, critical reflective practice at enhanced specialist level.
  • Ability to use a range of therapeutic skills.
  • Effective role-modelling.
  • Collaborative and multi-agency working.
