Senior Caretaker – Harrow Council

Harrow Council is the 12th largest London Borough by area and one of the most culturally diverse local authorities in the UK, making it a great place to live, work and visit. Located 10 miles from the city centre and just 13 minutes to Euston from Harrow & Wealdstone station there are great transport links via the Metropolitan Line, Watford DC Line and national rail service. It is easily accessible to the M1, M25 and A406.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a Senior Care Taker to join the Community & Housing Team. The post holder will report to the Resident Services Operational Manager and will oversee the provision of a caretaking service to all communal areas of our housing blocks, alleyways, pathways, parking and garage areas, community centres and play areas. The successful candidate would be expected to help with the caretaking if required.

We are looking for a candidate with a “can do” attitude, who has supervisory experience or can quickly acquire them,  experience of monitoring contracts such as ground maintenance, and be able to juggle priorities. An important part of the role is to encourage good team working practices and dealing with conflicts of staff.  They will also be required to communicate with other service areas and deliver the highest standards of customer care at all times.

To be successful in this role you would need to have the below skills & experience:

  • Experience of working outside in Street Cleaning, Grounds Maintenance or related operations.
  • Understanding of repair/maintenance issues
  • Understanding of Health and Safety legislation and how to apply the guidelines to the day-to-day working of the service.
  • The knowledge to assess Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) requirements to ensure staff are fully equipped to carry out their duties safely and efficiently
  • Experience of dealing with the public in front line service delivery and a proven record of courteous and helpful service to members of the public
  • Ability to work on own initiative and/work as part of a team, including directing and organising the work of others
  • Ability to maintain records and issuance of tools and equipment to colleagues
  • Full Clean UK Driving licence, held for a minimum of 3 years driving experience.
  • Must be IT literate.
