A fantastic opportunity within Harrow Council for an enthusiastic and committed individual to join us as a Planning Officer. We are seeking self-driven and motivated individual to join us on a full time contract. In return we pay a competitive rate of £25 per hour dependent on experience, other benefits include excellent training and support for career development and 21 days holiday (excluding Bank Holidays).

You will be responsible for undertaking negotiations with developers to achieve satisfactory proposals within the context of national, strategic, and local policies, standards and guidelines, within statutory time constraints. You will be assisting in the registration of new planning applications involving the checking of planning fees and permitted development. You will be preparing high quality written reports on planning and related applications with a recommendation for consideration under Delegated Powers or by the Planning Committee.

To be successful in the role, you will need to have the following skills and experience:

  • A degree in planning or a planning related subject
  • Experience in planning enforcement, planning policy and developmental management.
  • Knowledge of current Town and Country planning practice, procedures and legislation, within planning, enforcement, policy or developmental control
  • Ability to organize workload, establish priorities for action, and carry out necessary work to a high quality standard within given deadlines
  • Ability to make recommendations to senior officers of the planning committee, through examining and assessing information, and presenting a balanced analysis of competing issues
  • Be physically able to undertake site visits and underdeveloped sites safely
  • A willingness to respond positively to change in procedures, practice, policies and organization within the Developmental Management Section, the Planning Group and the Council in general
  • Ability to work effectively in a team and a willingness to work in a manner that positively contributes to the performance of the team.
  • A full clean UK Driving License
