Description

Grange Primary School, Welbeck Road, Harrow HA2 0RY

Grange Primary School is seeking to appoint a highly motivated, organised person to work closely with our English Subject Lead to run and further develop our Library environment.  We are looking for someone who really cares about our school and pupils and has a professional but friendly manner to work with the children to help them achieve their very best. You will need to have a love of reading and be familiar with the types of books that the various age groups enjoy so that you can recommend key reading for them and encourage a love of reading across the school. You will need to be flexible and adapt to changing situations, have a positive outlook, and be able to work unsupervised as well as in groups.

We have a wonderful, supportive team of staff and a very positive community of governors and parents/carers. It is important that the person appointed fits in and is part of the team ethos at Grange Primary. You will also need to be efficient, flexible, able to prioritise tasks, have strong communication & IT skills, a positive outlook and most of all really enjoy working and helping children.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Keeping the Library consistently bright, tidy, organised and attractive to promote ‘Reading for pleasure’
  • Organising the Library into matched reading levels, working alongside the Assistant Headteacher and English Subject Lead
  • Using Junior Librarian to organise, catalogue & classify library resources (training will be provided)
  • Preparing packs of relevant books for topic work in the curriculum per year group
  • Carrying out presentations in assemblies and classes to promote reading
  • Promoting Reading throughout the school through organising competitions, e.g., book reviews and competitions through Harrow School Library Service’s borough-wide book review competition.

Grange Primary School is a 3 form entry school with 550 children currently on roll.  We have a Nursery and a Breakfast and After School Club on site.  Our vision is to provide each of our children with ‘Confidence and Consideration’ (our Grange CC Way) in order to make the best choices for themselves as they develop their potential.  We aim for this through high quality teaching; a stimulating and inspiring learning environment, a broad and rich curriculum full of opportunities for children to develop and grow and an explicit focus on character education.

Grange Primary was judged as “requires improvement to be good”, and this is because we must raise the children’s outcomes through consistently good teaching and learning. What makes our school so special is its core belief that diversity is a strength and that with the value of respect for self and others (our Grange CC Way), we can learn together and each achieve our potential.  Our school truly shines as a beacon of the best of diversity and that came through in the recent Ofsted report. (…see section on Personal Development, Behaviour and Welfare)

We are using Ofsted’s constructive feedback and consistently moving forwards on the journey to Grange Primary achieving a Good Ofsted within the next 2 years.

A couple of children in Year 6 quoted the following, which sums us up perfectly:

“We might not be the best [in the eyes of Ofsted] but we feel that we are the best”

“Grange is an adventure!”

Closing date:  Noon on Monday 2nd November 2020

Interviews:      During w/c 9th November 2020

Only shortlisted candidates will be notified.
