Teaching Position: Assistant Headteacher & SENCO

(with Additional Needs support & 0.6 Teacher of PHSE)                      

Grade: LG11-LG15

Responsible for: Education Support Workers (TAs)

We are a Pupil Referral Unit, including a Hospital Education Service, a Home Tuition Provision and an Outreach Inclusion Support Team.  If you are an exceptional and experienced practitioner, creative and believe you have the energy, enthusiasm and commitment to make a difference in the lives of some of our most vulnerable young people then we would like to hear from you.

This is a role that comes with particular challenges and the successful candidate must be committed to creating a positive educational and behavioural learning environment no matter what barriers they may face. You will need a high level of resilience, emotional intelligence and a commitment to working in a team.  Have experience, ideally, of working in a PRU or Alternative Provision (though mainstream experience only would be considered); with learners with Social, Emotional & Mental Health Needs and some with  SEND.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Determine the strategic development of special educational needs (SEN) policy and provision in the school with the headteacher.
  • Be responsible for day-to-day operation of the SEN policy and co-ordination of specific provision to support individual pupils with SEN or a disability, as well as support for Children Looked After (CLA) and those with English as an Additional Language (EAL).
  • Be responsible for the line management of the Education Support Workers.
  • Provide professional guidance to colleagues, working closely with staff, parents and other agencies.
  •  Be expected to fulfil the professional responsibilities of a teacher, as set out in the School Teachers’ Pay and Conditions Document.

Create and develop, with the direction of the Headteacher, a skilled, confident and motivated staff team to support inclusion.
