Description

Shared Lives Carer

Do you live in Harrow or surrounding areas? Do you want a career in care?

Then look no further. Harrow Council by Shared Lives Scheme is looking for local carers to support and care for people with additional needs.

The Shared Lives Schemes are Adult Placement arrangements with vulnerable individuals being offered accommodation ad support in the Carer’s home. You will be vetted and checked by Harrow Council for suitability and matched with suitable citizen(s).

Shared Lives Scheme supports adults with learning disabilities, mental health problems or other needs that make it harder for them to live on their own.

Do you have a spare room or some time to care for an older person or vulnerable adult? Could you offer:

  • FULL TIME CARE (Long Term Placement) – where the adult lives with you in your home and is treated like family. Pay varies between approx. £300 - £500 per week depending of the level of need of the individual you support. You would also receive Rent and contributions towards utilities and food provisions.
  • OVERNIGHT/RESPITE CARE – where the adult stays in your home for a short period of time to give their permanent carers a break. Pay varies between approx. £55 - £75 for the 24hr overnight Respite stay (you would not be required to stay awake during the night)
  • DAY SUPPORT – you would provide support in the community and support an adult to take part in social and leisure activities (such as shopping, going to the cinema, attending football matches or getting involved with the local community). Pay varies between approx. £45 - £65 for the session (6 hrs).

Being a Shared Lives Carer is a unique experience and the type of support you offer can be flexible to meet your own personal circumstances. The role can fit around other work commitments and family responsibilities and can be provided right from your own home. A Shared Lives Carer helps make a real difference in the person’s life, offering their time and support. You will help them grow, develop in confidence and enjoy tasks, activities and hobbies, such as walking, crafts, singing, sports, shopping, or going to the cinema, concerts and the pub.

Who are we looking for?

We welcome people of all ages and backgrounds who are married, single, living with a partner, with or without children, who own their own home or rent with or without experience of caring for people.  Anyone over the age of 18 can become a Shared Lives Carer.

Benefits of being a Shared Lives Carer

As a Shared Lives Carer, you will be rewarded with competitive rates of pay. You will be self-employed and able to receive tax benefits if you fit the criteria.
